The Nest Nursery

We know that choosing the right Nursery for your child is an important and sometimes daunting decision. There is so much to consider, and every family wants the very best start for their little one. Emmbrook Infant School is at the heart of the community and its Ofsted rating of “Outstanding” in all areas shows that it provides an excellent education to its pupils and local families.

At Emmbrook Infant School, our aim is to ensure that each child feels valued, supported, and inspired from their very first day with us. We encourage independence and confidence, gently nurture key personal and academic skills, celebrate and model our core values, and foster a lifelong love of learning. These foundations help every child to flourish and feel ready for their transition into the Emmbrook family of schools.

Our newly designed and purpose built Early Years provision is wonderful space that will offer 30 full time equivalent places for children, aged between 3 and 4 years old a chance to begin their learning journey closely connected to the nurturing and vibrant life of our school. The nursery would be open on a term time only basis and follow the school day, with additional hours available.

Sessions Available

  • Full day Session 9am – 3pm
  • Morning Session 9am – 12pm
  • Afternoon Session 12pm – 3pm

Additional wraparound session for £6 per hour

  • Early Bird Session 8am – 9am
  • Nightingale Session 3pm – 4pm

For continuity of care, we strongly encourage all funded hours to be taken at the school; however, we are committed to supporting flexibility where adjustments may be needed.

Starting Nursery

We want your child’s start in Nursery to feel happy, calm, and exciting. To support this, we have a gentle transition programme in place. This includes an informal Stay and Play session, a home visit at the start of term, and two short classroom visits.

For the first visit, we encourage you to stay with your child so they can explore their new environment feeling secure. During the second visit, they will have the opportunity to stay independently, helping them begin to build confidence. We understand that every child is different, so we are always happy to be flexible and adapt this process to suit your child’s needs.

Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum

In Nursery, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum and create a special Learning Journey for each child. Through careful observations, we get to know your child really well, which helps us support their individual development and plan the next steps in their learning.

There are strong links between Nursery and the main school, providing a consistent and familiar approach. We introduce children to the Read Write Inc. Programme, which continues throughout Emmbrook Infant School. We also use the same tracking system as the rest of the school, allowing us to monitor progress closely and ensure every child receives the support they need as they grow and learn.

Moving to Reception

At Emmbrook Infant School, we place great importance on helping children feel happy, confident, and ready for their next steps.

Children will be supported in developing strong friendships and trusting relationships with familiar adults. Their confidence will be nurtured through becoming familiar with the school environment, as well as learning routines, expectations, and daily experiences that will prepare them for Reception.

Towards the end of the Nursery year, we plan to offer ‘Transition to School’ meetings for parents to help support this important next step.
